Vaqif Hasanov (Ibrahimoglu)
Vaqif Ibrahimoglu was born in 1949 in the village of Mardakan near Baku.
In 1967 he enrolled in the Faculty of Film and Drama of the State Culture and Art University of Azerbaijan, graduating in 1972. Between 1973 and 1976, he worked as an actor in the State Theatre for Young Spectators of Azerbaijan, following which he worked in the Experimental Theatre Studio attached to the Theatre Society of Azerbaijan – from 1979 to 1982 as a director of the Educational Theatre, and from 1982 to 1989 as Director-in-Chief of the State Theatre of Musical Comedy of Azerbaijan.
Ibrahimoglu has produced plays for the State National Theatre of Drama of Azerbaijan, for theatres in Ankara and Bursa in Turkey, and for the Uqala theatre in Estonia. Since 1989, he has worked as a director of the “YUGH” theatre (which became a state institution in 1992), and has produced approximately 80 plays.
On 22 May 1991, Ibrahimoglu was made an “Honored Art Worker of Azerbaijan”. He is a recipient of the “Qizil Dervish” award and an assistant professor at the State Culture and Art University of Azerbaijan. In 2006, a Presidential Award was conferred on him.
Ibrahimoglu has chaired the Art Advisory Committee of "Narimanfilm" since 2005.
